Well, what you saw last time was the progress after less than 1 week’s worth of work (hobby time, not full time). The next step was to keep making progress and adding bits and pieces to continue working on the look and feel of the blocks. Even to this day, a month later, there are still a few things I’m working on to get the movement right because I am not yet satisfied.
For now, I will continue to show my little bits of progress by tossing out a bunch more videos. It’s not necessarily that I want to show off anything, I am just attempting to show the evolution of a game, as it goes through its various stages.
In part 6, I updated my camera controls to follow the selected block (player) around the screen. I also adding the ability to zoom in and out:

In part 7, I added farseer’s bombs for fun. I wanted to see the interactions and how dynamic things could feel while mixing it up:

In part 8, I made the non-selected blocks interactive. They are no longer static. I also get my first bug from an error I caused in Farseer:

In part 9, I added the ability to switch in between blocks. This is an essential part to the game, so I wanted to make sure it felt right:

In part 10, I added the ability to make the blocks adhere to one another, but I also run into some issues. My noob-ness with the code causes some performance issues:

I have at least 6 more videos before we have caught up to my current status (these videos are all from early march), but I will save them until the next post. Only having time at night and on the weekends does cause progression to be slow when compared to a true development team, but I think I will definitely still be able to make a game without it growing stale.
Next HTMAG post: More Prototyping progress, and the shift toward a game, instead of just a prototype.
