My Son and I

My name is Erik Briggs, if you haven’t already figured that out ;) .  I also go by my pseudonym, “Jerky,” which more people know me by.  I seriously became interested in Game Development in 2005 when I joined a project called Project Wish.  After researching all I could in the beginning, I ended up taking over the Art Lead role, and later, took over management of the entire project.  I ran PW tirelessly for ~4 years until Jan. 2009 when we decided to do something different and stop developing the project.  It is now a place for people to get information on making games and to host their projects.  Read more about it on the PW site.

Due to my involvement with the IGDA, in July 2008, I was able to share some of my experience at a gaming expo (GEEX) in Salt Lake City.  You can check out my gamedev videos here on my blog.  I enjoy sharing what I know/have learned and am always willing to help those that are seeking it.  I hope to be able to speak again in the future, if the right opportunity arises.  In the mean time, I will use my blog to share what I can.

By day, I am the Sr. Network Engineer for a health care company in Utah.  By night I am a hobbyist/wannabe/indie game developer.  You choose the title, the proof is in the product.  I often spend 30+ hours a week on this, and have been doing so since 2005.  I learned a few things along the way and here I am now, hopefully much wiser and definitely much more capable.  I started this blog in March of 2009 after beginning another project and thinking a blog might be a good idea.  I currently have been writing the prototype for that game myself, using XNA, but am considering making it more accessible after it can stand on its own feet.

I have done 3D/2D art (concept, modeling, high-poly, uv mapping, etc), game design, websites, music composition and now programming.  I am attempting to make a game alone and see where that takes me.  All the banners on the site have been taken from some of my art, mostly from Project Wish, but some from the game I am working on now.

This blog will follow my prototyping, ideas, thoughts, opinions, etc. that I have about game development and the games industry.  I am rarely brief, so I hope you enjoy reading.
